The Smoking Ban has ruined my summer
So, for the first week of this month I was quite enjoying the effects of the smoking ban. Going to the pub of an evening and not having to burn my clothes when I got home has been most pleasant, and because the weather has been so bloody awful, the downside of the decision to banish all the smokers to the beer garden has not been apparent.
Saturday was a really nice day in Leamington, which made a nice change from the pissing down rain we’ve had for the last 40 days and 40 nights. I was out for a drink, and with it being a nice evening suggested that we sit outside - big mistake. With the advent of the smoking ban, all the beer gardens in town have been given canopies or awnings. These serve to keep the smokers dry, but also to trap the smoke in a kind of low-level fug. It felt very odd to be sitting outside, breathing less-than-fresh air.
Personally, I think I preferred smoky pubs and smoke-free beer gardens…
