When I was wrapping up my 2009 A-Z project, I noticed that very few (only 3, in fact) photos contained people. It wasn’t planned like that, it was just the way it worked out. So I decided that for 2010 my A-Z would be composed entirely of portraits. I sent a message round my friends and asked who would like to be involved, and was lucky enough to have Aly volunteer to be my ‘A’. (Just to be clear, the letter isn’t necessarily going to have to be someone’s initial, but it seemed to be a good place to start).
I’ve been wanting to do something with high-contrast backgrounds for a little while and the snow we’ve had recently gave me the perfect backdrop for it. Aly came prepared dressed in blacks and whites and wasn’t worried about getting cold or damp as long as she could keep her gloves on! My new f1.4 lens made it really easy for me to blow the background of the shot out and get the hat to bleed into it.
I’m really excited by this as the start of my 2010 project. Thanks to Aly for being such a trooper in the freezing cold. The Flickr pool for this project can be found here.
